How to Store Hemp Flower (Without Killing Terps)

How-To Guide

How to Store Hemp Flower

Premium flower loses 30%+ of its terps in 90 days if stored wrong. Here's the fix.

You spent $35 on premium flower. Don't waste it. Bad storage degrades terpenes faster than most people realize — and you can't get the flavor back once it's gone.

The 4 Variables That Matter

1. Light — the #1 enemy

UV light degrades cannabinoids and terpenes faster than anything else. Keep flower in opaque containers or in a dark cabinet. Clear glass is fine if you store the jar in a drawer.

2. Humidity — the silent killer

Sweet spot: 55–62% relative humidity. Too low (under 55%) and the flower goes crispy and harsh. Too high (over 65%) and you risk mold. Use Boveda or Integra packs in your jars.

3. Temperature

Cool is better than warm. Aim for 60–70°F. Don't store in a fridge — the temperature fluctuations every time you open it cause condensation. Don't freeze unless you're making rosin.

4. Air exposure

Oxygen oxidizes cannabinoids. Use airtight containers. Glass jars with rubber gaskets beat plastic bags every time.

The $15 Fix That Beats $200 Humidors

You don't need a wood humidor. You need:

  1. Mason jar or any airtight glass jar
  2. Boveda 62% pack ($1–2 per pack)
  3. Cool, dark drawer

That's it. Premium humidors are aesthetic. The above setup keeps flower fresh for 6+ months.

What NOT to Do

  • ❌ Plastic baggies for long-term storage
  • ❌ Store next to a window
  • ❌ Refrigerate
  • ❌ Open the jar repeatedly throughout the day
  • ❌ Mix multiple strains in one jar (terpene cross-contamination)
